Douglas Spence

Founding Partner | CPA, CA, LPA

Doug started Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs when he transitioned his part-time practice to a full-time practice in June 2005. After he received an Honours BA degree from the University of Toronto majoring in both Commerce and Economics, Doug went on to attain his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993. Doug has years of experience in both public accounting and industry, as Director of Finance for a manufacturing company, and Controller with a transportation company. He continues to work in industry by providing controllership and CFO services for clients in the construction and manufacturing industries. He brings this wealth of knowledge and depth of experience as part of his continuing endeavour to provide clarity, value and peace of mind to his clients. He is married with two sons.

Steve Gaul

Partner | CPA, CA, LPA

Steve is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Chartered Accountant and holds an Honours of Bachelor of Accounting degree from Brock University. Steve’s practice areas at the firm are providing assurance services, real estate tax planning, corporate restructuring, business valuations and estate planning. He has extensive experience working with small to large size private companies and providing advice regarding their financial and tax reporting requirements. Steve is actively involved in the professional development and training of the staff.

Jenny Kwon

Associate | CPA, CGA, CPA (Maine)

Jenny joined Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2015 and obtained her Canadian CPA, CGA designation in 2016. She also holds US CMA designation and US CPA (Maine). She is a motivated and meticulous accounting professional with over 20 years' experience in both industry and public accounting. Jenny specializes in Accounting & Assurance, Corporate Tax and US Personal Tax. She’s married with two children. Outside of work Jenny enjoys hiking the trails with her dog Moose.

Mara Buhi

Senior Accountant

Mara achieved Honours of Bachelor of Business Administration - Accounting degree from Pilon School of Business, Sheridan College. She is currently pursuing her CPA and has successfully completed her CPA exams. Mara started with Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2018 while working on her degree. She joined the firm full-time upon graduation and works with clients in assurance services, corporate and personal tax. She is also an integral member of the firm’s internal accounting services team.

Mason Tan

Accounting Intern

Mason joined Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2024. He is currently a third-year student attending Brock University studying accounting. He is on route to getting his CPA in the near future. During his spare time, he enjoys hiking, and playing sports.

Camden Collington

Accounting Intern

Camden joined Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2025. He is a second-year student at Brock University currently pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting degree. His ultimate goal is to obtain his CPA designation after graduation. During his spare time, he enjoys skiing and golfing.

Khanh Phi

Financial Analyst Intern

Khanh joined Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2025. He is a third-year student at the University of Waterloo, pursuing a Bachelor of Honours Mathematics in Mathematical Finance and Statistics. With a strong passion for finance, Khanh is dedicated to developing knowledge in financial analysis, tax planning, and accounting principles. Outside of work, he enjoys learning the game of poker, cooking, and reading.

Monika joined Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs in 2024 and pursuing her Bachelor of Administrative Studies at York University. Monika has over 10 years experience in bookkeeping in various industries. She's married with two children. Outside of work Monika enjoys the outdoors and gardening.

Nancy Lee

Office Administrator | Elec Eng Ret.

Nancy is a retired engineer with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. She has over 30 years’ experience in the telecommunication industry within corporate and wholesale, technology development, manufacturing, financial technology and software development sectors. She brings a unique skill set, educational and experiential background to Douglas Spence & Associates CPAs. Nancy is an integral member of the team in Personal and Estate Tax, and SR&ED consulting.
